Academic Council
TERM : THE TERM OF THE NOMINATED MEMBERS SHALL BE THREE YEARS.
Meetings: Meetings of the Academic Council shall be held at least once every six months.
Functions of the Academic Council:
- (a) To scrutinize and approve the proposals with or without modification of the Board of Studies with regard to courses of study, academic regulations, curricula, syllabi and modifications thereof, instructional and evaluation arrangements, methods, procedures relevant thereto, etc., provided that where the Academic Council differs on any proposal, it shall have the right to return the matter for reconsideration to the Board of Studies concerned or reject it, after giving reasons to do so.
- (b) To make regulations regarding the admission of students to different programmes of study in the Autonomous College, keeping in view the policy of the Government.
- (c) To make regulations for sports, extra-curricular activities, and proper maintenance and functioning of the playgrounds and hostels.
- (d) To recommend to the Governing Body proposals for the institution of new programmes of study.
- (e) To recommend to the Governing Body institution of scholarships, studentships, fellowships, prizes, and medals, and to frame regulations for the award of the same.
- (f) To advise the Governing Body on suggestions(s) pertaining to academic affairs.
- (g) To perform such other functions as may be assigned by the Governing Body.

B. A(+3) part -1
1. Students who have passed 12th examination from Punjab School Education Board Mohali, Haryana School Education Board, Himachal Pradesh school education board or CBSE or any equivalent examination approved by Punjabi University Patiala can take admission in this class.
Here it is clarified that:—
2. A student who has passed the Pre- Engineering, Pre – Medical, T.D.C.(B.A./B.S.c/ B.Com) part 1 examination under the old scheme from Punjabi University Patiala or any other approved university or have done/ passed the examination from Punjabi University Patiala or any other recognise University/Board, the student can take admission in B.A.part-1.
Note:-
1.) The student who has passed the 12th examination from any board other than the above mentioned boards will be admitted to B.A.part-1 by the college only after obtaining the eligibility certificate from the registration branch of Punjabi University Patiala before admission.
2.) The student who wants to replace Punjabi compulsory subject in B.A.Part- 1 with Punjab History and Culture subject with the permission of Punjabi University Patiala, her case should be submitted to Punjabi University Patiala within 1 month from the date of admission as per the affidavit mentioned in the Rules/ Ordinance. Therefore, the concerned student should fill the prescribed affidavit completely and attach it to her admission form.
B. A.(+3) Part- 2
1.) Students who have passed B.A.(+ 3) part- 1 examination from Punjabi University Patiala or any other official University can get admission in this college.2.) Those students who Re-appear in B.A.part- 1 examination of Punjabi University Patiala, Punjab University Chandigarh or Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar in only one subject, they will be given provisional admission in B.A. part-2 on this condition that those students may have to pass the reappeared subject of B.A.Part-1 in the supplementary examination of the same year or pass the B.A.part- 2 annual examination. In case of not passing the subject with reappearance of B.A.Part- 1 in the same year, their B.A.part-2 examination will be cancelled by the University.
Note:-1.) The student who has passed the B.A. part- 1 examination of any university other than the above mentioned University will be admitted to B.A.part -2 by the college only after obtaining the eligibility certificate from the registration branch of Punjabi University Patiala before admission.

A student who was to take admission B.A. part -2 after passing the B.A.part-1 examination from a University outside Punjab, the case of her deficient slip/slips should be submitted to Punjabi University Patiala within 1 month from the date of admission as per the affidavit mentioned in the Rules/ Ordinance. Therefore, the concerned Student should fill the prescribed affidavit completely and attach it to her admission form and all the process to get eligibility from the University has to be done by the student herself
B. A. (+3) part- 3
1.) Students who have passed B.A.(+ 3) part- 2 examination from Punjabi University Patiala or any other official University can get admission in this college.

Special Note:- 1.) The Syndicate of Punjabi University Patiala has decided in its meeting dated 31/08/1993 in para 2-3 that, “Students taking admission in science, commerce, medicine , engineering and other technical subjects, who have not previously passed the Punjabi examination up to the matriculation level, will be required to pass the matriculation level Punjabi examination or Punjabi entrance examination during their course. “
2.) The Academic Council of Punjabi University Patiala has decided through its meeting dated 30/03/2000 para no.6 that, “Such students who have passed the Punjabi proficiency examination from the department of languages, Punjabi will be considered eligible for admission on the basis of matriculation equivalent to Punjabi on completion of the remaining admission requirements in the respective course.”

Scholarships and other assistance
The following scholarships are available from the Punjab Government for eligible students :–
1. National (merit) scholarship ( Government of India)
2. State government merit scholarship
3. Means-cum-merit scholarship ( for economically backward and deserving students)
4. Scholarships for children of Ex- servicemen.
5. National loan scholarship.
6. University merit scholarship.
In order to get National loan scholarship students must score 50% marks in the lower class and the income of parents should not be more than 25000 rupees per Annum. If the student is taking any other scholarship then she cannot get this scholarship. A student who receives a loan scholarship has to repay the loan amount through interest-free installments after 3 years or after 1 year in case of employment. If he does not repay the loan stipend within the said time, she has to repay the amount including interest at the rate of 10%. But if she is regularly employed as a teacher or as a combatant in the Indian Army after completing her studies, she can get remission of 1/10th of the loan amount in return for one year of service. And after 10 years of continuous service, the entire loan is waived off.
Note:- Those students who want to avail the scholarship facility will fill their scholarship form online and submit a copy of the filled online form in the college office as proof. If a student does not submit his scholarship form online by the dates specified by the government, she will have to deposit the full fee prescribed by the university in the college office as per the rules.
Other scholarships
1.) Scholarships to schedule castes students under Post Matric Scholarship scheme of Government of India:-
Scheduled caste students whose parents/ guardians are permanent residents of the state of Punjab and are studying in a recognised college/Institute in any part of India are entitled to scholarship on the condition that annual income of the parents/ guardians of such students from all resources of the family is not more than 2,50,000 rupees , it is necessary to take a statement from the Arbitral Executive Magistrate. The original statement must be attached by the student to the admission form at the time of admission. In case of not attaching the statement affidavit, the student will not be entitled to fee waiver.
2.) Scholarships to Backward class students under the Post Matric Scholarship scheme of the Government of India:-
Scholarships are sanctioned on the basis of such backward class/caste students whose parents/ guardians are permanent residents of the state of Punjab and are studying in colleges of Punjab. In such a case, it is necessary to take a statement from the Arbitral Executive Magistrate that the annual income of the family is not more than 1 lakh rupees. (1,00,000) The original statement must be attached by the student to the admission form at the time of admission. In case of not attaching the statement affidavit, the student will not be entitled to fee waiver. Students who do not score more than 40% marks, can only take the examination fee. Students of this category/ class can get re-examination fee of the same class in case of failure. A backward class student can charge twice the examination fee of one class.
3.) Freeship under welfare scheme:-
Government colleges should not charge fees for students belonging to schedule castes and backward classes, while private colleges/ institutions have to claim the remaining amount from the government except for 2% of the total students, while the condition of 2% is not applicable to technical colleges.
4.) Low income group scholarship scheme:- These scholarships are awarded to students not belonging to scheduled castes/ Backward classes, whose parents’ annual income does not exceed rupees 3600 in any case.
5.) Scholarships to the students of the Denotified tribes/castes:-
Scholarships are sanctioned at college level to the children of the notified tribes/castes, Ex- criminal tribes who are permanent residents of the state of Punjab, on the condition that the annual income of the parents/guardians of such students does not exceed rupees 5000 or land tax does not exceed rupees 1001 per annum.
6.) Scholarships and free education for children of riot victims:-
Scholarships and free education facilities are available to the children of the riot victims as per the instructions of the Punjab government.

Special prize
Late: Mr.Gurbaksh Singh Memorial prize:- This prize is Rs 1001 per students per year for the students who stand first in their class in the university examinations of B.A.part-1 and part-2 offered by Dr. P.P Singh Goniana Mandi.
Student Aid Fund
Financial assistance is provided as per rules from the Student aid fund to such needy and deserving students who are not entitled to any of the scholarships mentioned above. such students are selected by the college’s student aid fund committee. In the student aid fund committee the Principal includes teaching staff and representatives of the students so that proper judgement can be taken.
Note:- Any scholarship or other aid mentioned above may also cease due to a student’s academic decline or lack of discipline. Students receiving scholarship or other assistance must be regular in college.
Attendance
Students admitted to the college must be regular. A student whose attendance in classes is not satisfactory or who is showing persistent weakness in studies may be dismissed from the college.
Holiday Rules
1. A student should take leave only when absolutely necessary.
2. Leave should be taken with prior approval through due application form.
3. The leave letter must be signed by the father/Guardian.
4. In case of illness, the application along with the medical certificate should be submitted immediately after coming from the leave.
5. Unexpected leave of three days may be sanctioned by the tutor, more than this, maybe sanctioned by the principal.
6. Leave for a particular period can be granted only by the concerned lecturer.
7. In case of continuous absence from the college for 10 days or more, the name of the student will be dismissed from the college. The respective/ concerned lecturer will continue to submit the report in this regard to the college office.
